About GAMSOL

  • What is open and distance learning?

Open and distance learning (ODL) is a system of education that uses multiple methods โ€” online, print, mobile, and limited face-to-face โ€” to bridge the separation between learners and teachers. It removes barriers like distance, fixed timetables, and prior schooling status.

  • Who runs GAMSOL?

GAMSOL is an autonomous institution operating under the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. It is led by a Director appointed by the Board of Governors, which is chaired by the Permanent Secretary of MoBSE. See the staff and governance page.

  • Where are the regional centres?

The head office is in Banjul. Regional centres are being progressively established across The Gambia to provide in-person tutorial support, exam preparation, and TVET practicals. Contact us for the centre nearest you.

Admissions

  • Who is eligible to apply to GAMSOL?

GAMSOL is open to learners aged 12 and above who are unable to attend conventional schools. This includes out-of-school children, youth and adults seeking a second chance at basic or senior secondary education, working learners who need a flexible schedule, and learners in remote areas with limited access to formal schools.

  • How do I apply?

Review the available programmes, download the application form from the Resources page, and submit it with the required documents to your nearest regional centre or via the contact form. You will receive a confirmation of registration and onboarding details.

  • What documents do I need?

You will need a valid identification document (national ID, birth certificate, or passport), any previous academic transcripts or certificates if available, and a passport-sized photo. Adult learners without prior schooling records can still apply โ€” we will assess your starting level during onboarding.

  • When can I apply?

Applications are open year-round, with two main intake windows in August and February for new cohorts. Late applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Fees

  • How much does it cost?

Fees vary by programme, ranging from GMD 500 per term for Lower Basic to GMD 2,500 per term for some TVET tracks. The exact fee is shown on each programme page. Limited financial assistance is available โ€” see "Financial assistance" below.

  • How do I pay?

Fees can be paid at any GAMSOL regional centre, by mobile money, or by bank transfer. Instalment plans are available โ€” speak to the registrar at registrar@gamsol.gm.

  • Is financial assistance available?

Yes. GAMSOL works with partners including the Luminos Fund to provide financial assistance to learners who cannot afford the full fees. Apply for assistance by indicating it on your application form.

Programmes

  • What programmes does GAMSOL offer?

GAMSOL offers programmes from Lower Basic through Senior Secondary, plus TVET tracks in ICT, Garment Construction, and Hospitality. Senior Secondary is offered in Arts, Science, and Commerce streams. See the programmes catalog for the full list.

  • Are GAMSOL qualifications recognised?

Yes. Upper Basic graduates sit the GABECE (Gambia Basic Education Certificate Examination), and Senior Secondary graduates sit the WASSCE (West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination), both administered by WAEC. GAMSOL programmes are accredited by NAQAA.

  • How long does each programme take?

Lower Basic and Upper Basic each take three years; Senior Secondary takes three years. TVET programmes are typically one year. The Second Chance Programme adapts to your pace โ€” you can move faster on topics you already know.

  • Can I switch programmes after I start?

Yes, with approval from your academic advisor. We assess transfer credits and align your previous coursework with your new programme so you do not lose progress.

Technical

  • What do I need to study with GAMSOL?

You need access to a smartphone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection. Most coursework is delivered through the GAMSOL Moodle platform at www.gamsol.gm/moodle. Regional centres also offer free internet access for learners.

  • I forgot my Moodle password โ€” what now?

Use the "Forgot password" link on the Moodle login page, or contact support@gamsol.gm for assistance. The 24/7 technical help desk also handles password resets.

  • Do you have a mobile app?

GAMSOL uses the official Moodle Mobile app, which works on Android and iOS. Download "Moodle" from your app store and connect to www.gamsol.gm/moodle when prompted.
